In the standard two-dice format, 7 Down means a total of 2–6, Exactly 7 means seven, and 7 Up means 8–12. Learn the rules, compare the probabilities and see every possible dice combination.

7 Up Down is a dice game based on the sum of two standard six-sided dice. After both dice have settled, their face values are added together. The total belongs to one of three groups: below seven, exactly seven or above seven.
The smallest possible total is 2, from a 1 on each die. The largest is 12, from two 6s. A total of 7 has its own category; it does not count as either 7 Up or 7 Down.
This guide explains the standard two-dice format described in the Indslots games hub. Check the rules and any paytable inside the game for the version you are viewing.
Read the final value on each die, add the two numbers and compare the sum with seven. Each total fits into exactly one category.
| Category | Dice total | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 7 Down | 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 | 2 + 3 = 5 |
| Exactly 7 | 7 only | 3 + 4 = 7 |
| 7 Up | 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 | 4 + 5 = 9 |
Use the combined total, rather than comparing the dice with each other. For example, a 6 and a 1 make Exactly 7, even though one die shows a high number.
For two independent, fair six-sided dice, count the ordered outcomes in each category and divide by 36. Up and Down have equal chances; Exactly 7 has a smaller chance.

Up and Down are equally likely, but neither has a 50% chance on an unconditioned roll: the separate seven result accounts for 6 of the 36 outcomes. If you exclude seven after the roll, the remaining outcomes split equally, but that is a different question.
Seven can be formed in six ways, more than any other single total. Down combines five totals with 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15 ways. Up combines five totals with 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 15 ways.
Percentages are rounded. These are mathematical probabilities under the fair, independent dice assumptions, not verified odds or payouts for a particular app.
Choose the first die along the left and the second die across the top. Each cell shows their total and category: D = Down, E = Exactly 7, U = Up.
| Dice | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2D | 3D | 4D | 5D | 6D | 7E |
| 2 | 3D | 4D | 5D | 6D | 7E | 8U |
| 3 | 4D | 5D | 6D | 7E | 8U | 9U |
| 4 | 5D | 6D | 7E | 8U | 9U | 10U |
| 5 | 6D | 7E | 8U | 9U | 10U | 11U |
| 6 | 7E | 8U | 9U | 10U | 11U | 12U |
For example, row 2 and column 5 show 7 (E). Row 5 and column 2 give the same total, but count as a separate ordered outcome. Double threes give 6 (D); double fours give 8 (U).
Six is below seven, so this result belongs to 7 Down. A single high die does not determine the category.
The sum is precisely seven. It belongs to the separate seven category, outside both Up and Down.
Eight is above seven, making this a 7 Up result. Totals from eight through twelve all share this category.
Matching dice are called doubles. In the basic format, their sum still determines the category: double threes make six.
Reversing the dice does not change the total. A 2 followed by a 5 and a 5 followed by a 2 both add up to seven.
With two independent, fair six-sided dice, there are 36 equally likely ordered combinations: six possible values on the first die multiplied by six on the second. The totals themselves are not equally likely, because some can be made in more ways.
| Total | Ways out of 36 | Category |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 1 | 7 Down |
| 3 | 2 | 7 Down |
| 4 | 3 | 7 Down |
| 5 | 4 | 7 Down |
| 6 | 5 | 7 Down |
| 7 | 6 | Exactly 7 |
| 8 | 5 | 7 Up |
| 9 | 4 | 7 Up |
| 10 | 3 | 7 Up |
| 11 | 2 | 7 Up |
| 12 | 1 | 7 Up |
Adding the rows gives 15 combinations for 7 Down, 6 for Exactly 7 and 15 for 7 Up. Under these assumptions, their probabilities are approximately 41.67%, 16.67% and 41.67%, respectively.
Seven is the most common individual total, but it is less likely than either grouped category. Each of those groups contains five different totals.
These figures describe the stated fair-dice model. They do not verify the software used by a particular game, specify its payouts or predict its next result.
The screen layout can vary by version. To follow the result, look for these four stages.
Locate the below-seven, exactly-seven and above-seven areas. Read the game instructions so you know how each area is named.
Let the roll animation finish. Use the final face values shown for that round, rather than an intermediate animation frame.
Combine the values on both dice. If the screen also displays a total, compare it with your calculation.
A total under seven is Down; seven is its own result; a total over seven is Up. Check the round result before following the next roll.
Keep both dice and the final total visible when following a round. If a connection interruption hides the result, check the recorded round result rather than inferring it from the last animation frame you saw.

Yes, under the independent fair-dice model: each category has 15 of 36 outcomes, approximately 41.67%. The remaining six outcomes total exactly seven.
There are six ordered outcomes out of 36, giving 1/6, approximately 16.67%. This is a long-run mathematical probability, not a promise of one seven in every six rounds.
No. Doubles have even totals: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12. None adds up to seven in the standard format.
No prediction trick can guarantee the next outcome under independent rolls. Repeated Up results do not make Down due; changing a stake does not change the dice probabilities.
The standard format uses two six-sided dice. Their combined total ranges from 2 to 12.
7 Down means that the two dice add up to less than seven: 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6.
7 Up means that the two dice add up to more than seven: 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12.
Neither. Exactly seven is a separate category in the standard three-category format.
The six ordered combinations are 1 + 6, 2 + 5, 3 + 4, 4 + 3, 5 + 2 and 6 + 1.
With independent dice rolls, earlier outcomes do not change the probabilities of the next roll. A history display does not provide a guaranteed prediction.
Read the rules or paytable displayed inside the version you are using. This guide explains dice totals and does not assign payout rates to the Indslots game.
We enumerated every ordered pair from (1, 1) to (6, 6), added each pair and grouped the totals around seven. For the underlying sample-space method, see University of Hawaiʻi: Probability—Rolling Two Dice. The chart and category calculations above are our own presentation of that method.
